In March of 1895 the Murphy-Kuntz Lumber Company of Chicago sent Frank Litzenberger to secure their interest in land to secure the business. Lots 6 and 7 of the Indiana Glass Company addition was chosen (now 205 N 10th Street, Middletown, IN.
In 1910 after Mr. Litzenberger passed away, Mrs. Litzenberger ran the business and then found a partner, WL McCampbell.
Mr. McCampbell’s father operated a copper shop on South 8th Street for several years.
Mr. McCampbell not only operated the Lumber Company, prior to this, he was editor of the Middletown News, served as post master, and operated an Insurance and Real Estate office . The Murphy-Kuntz
Lumber Company lasted until 1944 when it was sold to Charles Wisehart. The lumber company was sold multiple times from 1944 to 1969.
